Living Space
COMMON AREAS
Trigonelle's white clapboard houses an interior of honey toned tongue and groove hardwood planks. A wide veranda invites you can sit and watch hummingbirds in the garden or listen to the waterfall and the brook. You can cosy up to the fireplace on a cold winter's night or be lulled to sleep by the music of falling summer rain on the tin roof. Our large garage has been converted to a cabinetmaker's workshop where bicycles and skis can be safely stored at night. Avid cyclists, we can help you fix a flat, make minor repairs or find a spare part for your bike. We provide a smoke free environment. Yeti, our black Labrador no longer graces the household but we invite our guests to bring their canine companions with them.
Our dining room table is often used for doing jigsaw puzzles on a rainy day, playing a board game over a cup of tea or coffee in the evening or enjoying a friendly game of cribbage. Relax in the living room and read a book as the fireplace crackles on a cold winter night, catch the news or watch a video on TV or listen to music. Some books on local history are available for your perusal along with a variety of magazines and novels.
An old-fashioned country kitchen like your grandmother might have had, with a trap door to the basement larder, is the gathering place for breakfast. Our garden provides us with herbs, vegetables and a good supply of rhubarb, which you will discover in some of our homemade jams and jellies. Zucchini finds its way into breads, soups and even marmalades. Our full breakfast is healthy and hearty and included in the room rate. Guests are welcome to make themselves tea or coffee at any time. There is usually room in the fridge to store lunches, beverages and snacks too.

OUTDOORS
A favourite place to sit and read in the summer is our pergola. The floor consists of stepping stones made using rhubarb leaf impressions, surrounded by creeping thyme - a veritable Persian carpet in June. Rose bushes, American Bittersweet vines (Celastrus scandens) and hopps grow up the supports. Humming birds love the day lilies that adorn the corners and a birdbath provides water to our feathered friends.

The front veranda is banked with roses, day lilies and phlox in the summer, attracting humming birds and butterflies. The lovely blue flowers of Bachelor Buttons (Centauria Montana) glow in the twilight and Oregano (Origanum vulgare) proliferates in the garden along with many other perennials: Black Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia), Cone Flowers (Echanacea), Rose Mallow (Hibiscus sabdariffa), Shasta Daisies (Leucanthemum x superbum), Coral Bells (Hucheria) Bee Balm or Bergamot (Monarda didyma) and Astilbe among others.
Children and dogs like to explore the woods behind the house and often find traces of deer in the area. A trail leads to the far end of the property to the hydro line, which is no longer visible from the house. In the winter one can cross-country ski or snowshoe to the old Jackrabbit trail or around Leonard’s Mountain, though the trail is no longer maintained by the local cross-country ski club. You can also access the local cross-country trails, which connect with this area about 2 km from the house. You also have access to the cross-country trails by the P’tit Train du Nord across the street.
